Weeknight Workshop: The Art of Location Management
—Published on 9th Jul, 2021.
You’ve embarked on your next project; your location scout has wrapped. But given the size of your film’s budget, you tell your team: “We don’t need a location manager; one of us will handle it!” Well, you can but you’ll likely greatly compromise the quality of your shoot, and run yourself ragged while doing it.
FILMCO is very pleased to present our July Weeknight Workshop: The Art of Location Management with location manager Colin Smikle. Smikle’s list of credits includes award-winning films such as “Sprinter” from Storm Saulter and “Yardie”, Idris Elba’s directorial debut.
In this two-hour online workshop, Colin will share his wealth of experience gained from his 20+ years in the film business. He’ll take participants through the fundamentals of successful location management, highlighting subjects and topics such as the below:
- What does a location manager do: roles and responsibilities across pre-production, production and post
- Location scouting: skills needed; working with the director and your team
- The location management process
- Tools used in location scouting and management
- Engaging local communities
- Permits
- Negotiating and pricing locations
