Are you a director interested in learning how to get the best performance out of your actors? Are you an actor interested in shaking off that covid ‘rustiness’ by brushing up on your auditioning technique? Whether you’re a seasoned actor or a filmmaker who’s never taken an acting class in your life, auditioning is a step in the filmmaking process that you will repeatedly have to face. It’s a crucial part of producing any successful narrative production, including commercials. Learning from a veteran with experience on ‘all sides of the fence’ will give both actors and directors insider insight, while also learning from one another.

FILMCO is very pleased to present our August Weeknight Workshop: How to Audition & Direct Actors (Learning from the Actor’s POV) with actress, director, writer, casting director, teacher and producer Penelope Spencer. Spencer’s endless list of credits includes award-winning films such as “Bazodee” (starring Machel Montano) from Todd Kessler, “Play the Devil” from Maria Govan and “Home Again” from Sudz Sutherland

This workshop will be two sessions, 90 minutes each. Participants will be given a short scene to study before the commencement of the first class. In the first session, Penelope will work with attendees on how to prepare for an audition. In the second session, she will guide participants through the actual audition process as they experience the emotions that an actor goes through during an audition and also the expectations of casting directors. This workshop is designed to be interactive and participants will gain a more complete understanding of both the actor and the casting director’s point of view, during the audition process.
